This field book documents Elizabeth Gertrude Knight Britton's botanical collecting in the Virgin Islands (St. Thomas and St. Croix) in 1923, on a New York Botanical Garden expedition with Nathaniel Lord Britton and Fred Jay Seaver and/or James Furman Kemp. The field book is comprised of a list of specimen numbers 1-166. Specimens 1-38 were collected on St. Thomas, March 10-16, 1923; 39-166 on St. Croix, March 17-25, 1923. A few entries contain genus and species, but most have only genus or lichen, hepatic, moss. Most note location. The last 29 pages of the notebook are blank. An article in Brittonia: 48(3), 1996: Botanical expeditions of the New York Botanical Garden, by Brian M. Boom, lists Seaver as accompanying the Brittons on this expedition. However, the labels on these specimens in the NYBG Herbarium list the collectors as the two Brittons and James Furman Kemp
